Why It’s Important That We Partnered with The Common App
BY: Eric Young, Director of Admission, University of Mount Union
Greetings! I am excited to announce that the University of Mount Union has decided to partner with the Common Application (Common App) for the fall of 2019. The Common App is accessible by visiting https://www.commonapp.org/. In addition to serving as an application portal, the website has a variety of additional features to help you throughout your college search. One feature that I think is helpful is the ability to search for colleges based on the criteria that is most important to you. Within that feature, you’re able to receive more information and read about different schools. There are also various tips for you throughout the application process, from determining which schools to consider, to starting an application and learning more about the financial aid process. In addition to text on the website, the Common App has videos with tips and information from school counselors across the country. The Common App also has an interactive mobile application that lets you stay up-to-date with all the schools to which you have applied to.
While we will accept applications through the Common App, we will also have an application available through our website. Regardless of how you decide to apply, I am excited that you are considering Mount Union. Our staff in the Office of Admission, along with our faculty and staff across campus, are happy to help you throughout your college search by answering any questions that you have about Mount Union. In addition, we do not have an application fee on either application. I encourage anyone who has an interest in the university to take the time to complete the application process. The application through our website is available now and the application through the Common App is available August 1. We do not have an application deadline; however, we do require an essay, so I encourage all students to start the process as soon as possible instead of waiting until the last minute during your senior year, as most students tend to get busier as the year progresses.
Many students who look to pursue their college education face a variety of barriers, and my belief, along with those at the Common App, is that the application process should not be one of those barriers. As the Common App continues to grow, their commitment to this inclusion can be seen with their users. Over the past year, more than one million students, with over a third of them being first-generation college students have utilized the Common App. Since 25% of Mount Union students are first-generation college students, it is important for us as an institution to offer the Common App. At Mount Union we are committed to helping students through their college search process. If you’re considering Mount Union and want to learn more about our campus and all we have to offer, visit our website to register for a visit.
