What it Means to be a Student Athlete
Since balancing school work with a social life is hard enough, I thought I would be crazy to join an athletic team as well; now here I am, happier than ever to say that I am a member of the track team. Not going to lie, there are some tough times that come along when trying to balance everything, but as long as you stay organized and focused, it’ll all work out great. Growing up throughout high school, I checked playing sports off of my to-do list for college. All I wanted to do was study and hang out with my friends in college. I never really saw myself as a college athlete.
After visiting many state schools, I came across Mount Union and fell in love with it. I also fell in love with the track program. Pacing back and forth in my room, contemplating on the idea of going to Mount to run track, I finally submitted. Making that decision was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. I can’t imagine my college experience without the sport. Running has turned into a passion for me and also taught me that I can handle multiple things at once, such as my studies and working two jobs on campus. So, if you ever find yourself in a situation that you think will be too much or too hard for you to handle, just go for it; you will never know if you don’t try. If you hold back and keep waiting for the right time, it may never happen.
