Welcome Back! What’s New in Alliance?
It’s that time of year again, moving back to college. A time for making new memories, moving into a new residence hall and taking new classes, but what else is new on campus and around the city of Alliance? A new commercial development right next door, a few stores scattered throughout Alliance and a few upcoming stores as well! Here is everything that has happened over the summer while you were home!
- Mount Union Gateway
The Mount Union Gateway is finally complete! What used to be an old parking lot that Mount Union owned, is now a flourishing development for students and Alliance community alike to use. After working on the development for a year, the new gateway directly across from campus is ready for customers! With a variety of new restaurants (Buffalo Wild Wings, Orange Leaf, Papa Gyros and Georgio’s Pizza) to try and more banking options, there is something for everyone to try in the new Mount Union Gateway!
This new bank in Alliance was founded locally in Canfield, Ohio. With locations scattered all throughout Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Stark, Wayne, Medina and Cuyahoga counties, this bank is sure to have a few student customers. Farmer’s National prides themselves on integrity, respect, diligence, stewardship, commitment, and relationships. More information can be found here.
A new restaurant is in town! This ever popular sports bar has hit the ground running since their opening in mid-June! With specials such as Wing Tuesday and Boneless Thursday, any chicken lover would go crazy for these specials. With mounted TVs on every wall and a jumbotron in the middle of it all, you are sure not to miss any of the sports action at your seat. Busy or want to relax in your residence hall? You can order for pick up and it’s only a short walk away. Open Monday through Wednesday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. so there is no reason for you to miss out on some great food or a night out with friends. Opening its fourth store, this gyro restaurant is excited to be serving its authentic Greek cuisine to the Alliance community! A nice family run restaurant that is sure to please anyone. Whether a gyro lover or new to everything Greek, this is a great place to get a new taste in the city of Alliance.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for… froyo? That’s right, Alliance now has its own frozen yogurt stand! Orange Leaf is a new and uprising store that was recently founded in 2008. Known for its delicious and diverse flavors, unique and flavorful toppings, at the end of it all you can’t help, but smile and enjoy this little treat. By being self-serve (meaning you get to choose your own toppings) you are able to get as much or as little as you want, which is a blessing and a curse at the same time! Also, you get a nice little spoon shovel that helps you dive into your bountiful froyo. You can also sign up for their Ounce Back rewards program and rack up points to get money off! This is a great place to go after a day of class or to just hang out with friends. More information here.
With their authentic pizza, fresh is truly their middle name! Founded in 1990, this pizza chain is committed to making superior-quality, traditional pizza, raising them above their competition. With many other options including calzones, wraps, wings and more, there is a great selection of food, at an affordable price! Whether you want to order online, get it delivered or pick up a cheese or pepperoni pizza for only $5.99, this pizza store truly caters to the college student!
Just down the road from campus, a Starbucks will soon be opening! Located next to Bob Evans and across the street from the Carnation Mall, this popular coffee shop will sure bring a new buzz and new wave to the campus community! With soothing coffee to wake anyone up for those early morning classes, this is a great place to go to take a break and relax. Also, don’t forget to sign up for their rewards program! Opening right next to Giant Eagle in Buckeye Village, their GetGo gas station will soon be booming with business! With a Giant Eagle Advantage Card, members are able to earn cents off their gas with every purchase in store. The gas station also offers coffee, milkshakes, hot dogs, subs, burgers and so much more! Get-Go will be opening soon.
One of three of the new businesses that are opening across from Buckeye Village on State St. will be O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Priding themselves on professional parts and people, this auto parts shop has everything your car may need.
A new hotel is opening its doors this fall in Alliance. Across the street from Buckeye Village, this hotel is a great option for those students whose parents live out of state and need a place to stay while visiting. With free Wi-Fi, free morning breakfast and friendly service, this hotel is sure to fit your every need. Hampton Inn will be opening soon.
Opening just outside of campus is a new Wendy’s, right by the Hampton Inn! Wendy’s pride themselves with their delicious burgers and a cold frosty on the side. Wendy’s will be opening soon.
Alliance will be opening its very own Planet Fitness in upcoming months. Open 24 hours, and affordable fees, everyone in Alliance will be happy to have a card. Planet Fitness plans to set location in College Plaza at 1200 East State Street; it’s a walk from campus, but worth every bit of working out. For more information check out The Review’s article.
