Spring Break Plans

Spring Break Plans

I’ve never done anything really exciting for spring break. I visited my family in Portland one year but that was about it. This spring is probably the first spring break where I don’t know what I am going to do. I have the chance to go to Florida, home or I can just stay at Mount Union.

If I go to Florida, I’m obviously going to have a good time with my friends, have an actual warm spring break and I’ll get to relax. That doesn’t sound bad at all. The main problem is money because I never really have a lot of that green stuff.

If I go home, it will be snowing like it did last spring break, so that’s no fun. I may go sledding if there is enough snow though. You can never be too old for sledding. I won’t do anything productive other than catching up on movies that I’ve been waiting to watch.

If I stay at school, I’ll be helping the guys who may make it to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. My goal is to represent Mount Union one day at that national tournament, and I know if I was training for it, I’d want good drill partners, which is what I want to do for my teammates now. I’d also work as a student ambassador, so I’d be making money and staying healthy.

Most people will be going home over spring break, maybe even on vacation with their friends, but this spring break, I’m most likely going to be doing something productive for the first time ever.

Seeing “Old” Friends

Seeing “Old” Friends

Friends come and go. It’s the way life is.  The connections you make can last for a moment, a school year or even a lifetime.  You can go years without seeing a friend from high school and the next time you see them, it’s like you didn’t miss a beat and left off right where you were all those years ago.  Seeing friends from college is a little different since you’ve only known these people for a few months or a few years. But since you live with them, have class with them and see them around every day, it feels as if you grew up with them and it was meant to be.  I mean, we all chose the same school, right?

I have a friend from elementary school that moved to Florida in the sixth grade.  We never talked again until we were in high school.  My sophomore year in high school he was able to talk me into visiting him in Florida for a week.  I went the summer before my senior year and the year after that.  When I visited him and his family, there were obviously the “I missed you” hugs, but after that, it was as if we’ve seen each other every day.  We were able to talk and act as if we’ve seen each other every day although we haven’t seen each other in years.  This summer he moved to Los Angeles and I visited him with two of my friends that he never met before, and all of them immediately became best friends.  In the picture to the right is Ethan, Tyler (Me), Charbel and Tony.  Ethan and Charbel had never met Tony before this vacation, and now they are great friends. Friendship is able to travel far whether it is in distance or through time.

Today I saw someone I truly missed.  Her name is Caroline and she transferred after the first semester of our freshmen year.  She was easily one of my best friends during that time last year and when she transferred, it was sad seeing someone I wanted to know so much better just leave.  When I saw her today, I immediately was able to smell her large dose of perfume, which is something I weirdly missed, but it seemed as if I just saw her the other day.  I forgot I hadn’t seen her in nearly a year and I had so much to say but I just didn’t know what to say.  I was just caught up in the moment of seeing her.  I only knew her for a semester of college and I’m better friends with her than I am with some of my friends from high school.

For me and probably for everyone, friendships can begin so quickly and yet they feel like you’ve known them forever.  The point of this blog is to let everyone know that friendships can come and go, and some will never die.  I prefer to not let them get distant, although it does happen.  If you miss someone from home or even someone who transferred, give him or her a call, don’t text.  A call will truly say on its own that you wanted to talk and you want to stay in contact for a lot longer than just a few days.

This summer is so fun! It’s my last summer before I have a “real job” and I’m trying to take advantage of that the best that I can. Last Monday and Tuesday, my boyfriend and I went to Kalahari Indoor Waterpark in Sandusky, OH. It was so, so relaxing. We went with a couple of our friends and spent the two days riding water slides, floating around on the lazy river, eating and drinking. It was so fun because now that I’m 21 I got to visit the swim-up bar! :]

I haven’t had two days off in a row since I started at Winking Lizard so it was really nice to request the days off for the vacation and be able to just relaaaxxxx.

It’s so fun seeing people all around town and all around Ohio that went to Mount Union. I was out with one of my friends a couple weeks ago and this random guy that we happened to come across was asking us what we do and where we go to school. She goes to Baldwin-Wallace and obviously I told him I go to Mount Union. He said that he went there and graduated in 2004. We struck up a conversation about the school and the football team and were instantly buddies!

Then just a few days ago, my sister and I were at the gym and two guys asked my sister if she went to Mount because she had a MU shirt on. She told them that she doesn’t go there but that I do, and both of them went on to tell me that they graduated from Mount years ago too! Everyone that I’ve met that has attended Mount has nothing but good things to say about the university and I know I will do nothing but rave about it too when I’m gone, just as I do now. :]

I worked a double at the restaurant today and I’m working another one tomorrow. We were actually really busy tonight, which was unexpected since it’s the holiday weekend and so many people do cookouts. I’m hoping tomorrow will be busy too, but we’ll just have to wait and see! We are closed Monday for Memorial Day and I’m so excited to spend the entire day doing stuff outside.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Have a great Memorial Day! :]
