5 Reasons Why I Love Mount Union

The University of Mount Union has been my second home for the past three years and leaving in a year from now is going to be bittersweet. Despite the fact that these thoughts linger in the back of my head so often, better ones fill it more frequently, such as all the memories I’ve made and what I have yet to do. While the reasons I love Mount Union are innumerable, here a few to show just how important it is to me.

1 – “Our campus looks good in any season.”

While this cliché has been said by probably every college student ever, it’s still true. The small and beautifully kept campus is one of the main reasons I chose Mount Union. Being able to walk anywhere in such a short amount of time, in any weather, is tolerable because of the beauty that surrounds me when I am going there. I am proud to call myself one of the college students who has used a variation of the cliché simply because there is no other way to describe my home.

2 – Professors who genuinely care.

I have had many professors during my time here and they have each helped me grow as an intellectual. Many of them have gone above and beyond to help me do well in their courses and get me out of my shyness shell. I will be forever grateful for all of the passionate professors I’ve had because of the lasting lessons they have imparted upon me.

3 – Exceptional opportunities.

Being at Mount Union has granted me many opportunities that have helped me not only academically but professionally as well. My on-campus jobs have allowed me to gain hands-on experience that can benefit my future while learning valuable skills that I can take with me anywhere. I would not trade these experiences for the world and I am so fortunate for the people I have met because of them.

4 – Personal growth and independence.

Going to school for the past three years has really given me more independence and has allowed me to grow as a person. Starting college I was a shy person but I have met people and professors who have urged me to open up and be a more outgoing person. I love who I am and would not be the way that I am were it not for the experiences I have had here.

5 – Lasting pride of being a Purple Raider.

There is a lot that comes with attending Mount Union and pride is definitely part of the package. Being a Purple Raider is more than just cheering on our sports teams – it’s about supporting all aspects of Mount Union, from the theatre department to students attending various academic conferences. The pride we have at Mount Union starts from the moment we receive our acceptance letters and decide to attend Mount Union and does not go away. Purple Raider pride is something that I will take with me wherever I go in life.

My education at the University of Mount Union has helped me become exceptional and given me memories and experiences that I will keep with me forever. I am a very sentimental person so I know I my final year will be filled with “Omg, this is the last time I will be doing this” and phrases of that nature, but the fact that I had the opportunity to attend Mount Union has been such a blessing and something for which I am forever grateful.
